So you want your spray tan to last as long as possible?

Updated: Apr 30, 2023

You've just had your spray tan appointment and you're looking and feeling great. But how do you make that beautiful, sun-kissed glow last as long as possible? With the right care and maintenance, your spray tan can last for up to 10-14 days or more. Here are some tips to help you maintain your spray tan and enjoy that gorgeous glow for as long as possible.

1. Avoid showering or getting wet for at least an hour after your spray tan appointment.

To ensure that your spray tan develops properly, avoid showering or getting wet (this includes sweat!) for at least an hour after your appointment. This will give the DHA (the active ingredient in spray tan solutions) enough time to fully develop on your skin, resulting in a longer-lasting tan.

2. Wear loose, dark clothing after your appointment.

Immediately after your spray tan appointment, wear loose, dark clothing to avoid rubbing or smudging the solution. Tight clothing or accessories like bras or bags can cause friction, which can cause your tan to fade or become uneven.

3. Moisturise your skin daily.

To keep your skin hydrated and your tan looking fresh, moisturise your skin daily. Opt for a gentle, oil-free moisturiser that won't break down your spray tan. Pay special attention to areas like your hands, elbows, knees, and ankles, which tend to be drier and can cause your spray tan to fade more quickly. Please check for mineral oil in the ingredients list, and make sure to avoid it!

4. Avoid exfoliating or using harsh skincare products.

Exfoliating or using harsh skincare products like toners or peels can cause your spray tan to fade more quickly. Avoid using these products for the first few days after your spray tan appointment to allow the solution to fully set on your skin. We know how important skincare is, but many facial treatments and cleansers contain ingredients like acids that will fade your spray tan. We recommend using tanning serum drops in your moisturiser to maintain the tan on your face.

5. Avoid chlorinated pools or hot tubs.

Chlorine and other chemicals in pools or hot tubs can cause your spray tan to fade or become discoloured. Avoid swimming or soaking in chlorinated water for at least a few days after your spray tan appointment.

6. Touch up your tan as needed.

Depending on your skin type and daily activities, your spray tan may start to fade after a few days. To maintain your tan, touch up any areas that have faded or become uneven with a self-tanning lotion or spray.

By following these tips, you can maintain your spray tan for a longer-lasting, beautiful glow. With the right care and attention, you can enjoy that sun-kissed look for days or even up to two week after your spray tan appointment.
