Spray tanning mistakes (and how to fix them!)

Spray tanning is a popular way to achieve a beautiful, sun-kissed glow without exposing your skin to harmful UV rays. However, like any beauty treatment, mistakes can happen. Whether you're a first-time spray tanner or a seasoned pro, there are some common mistakes that customers make that can affect the outcome of the tan. Here are some tips on how to fix these common mistakes:

1. Not exfoliating beforehand

One of the biggest mistakes customers make is not exfoliating their skin before getting a spray tan. This can lead to a patchy, uneven tan. To avoid this, make sure to exfoliate your skin thoroughly before getting a spray tan. Use a gentle scrub to remove any dead skin cells and ensure that your skin is smooth and even.

2. Not moisturising enough

Another common mistake is not moisturising your skin enough before and after the spray tan. Dry skin can cause the tan to appear patchy and uneven, and can also cause it to fade faster. To prevent this, make sure to moisturise your skin regularly in the days leading up to the spray tan, and continue to moisturise after the tan to keep your skin hydrated and ensure that the tan lasts as long as possible.

3. Not wearing loose clothing

Wearing tight clothing after a spray tan can cause the tan to rub off or become patchy in certain areas. To avoid this, wear loose, comfortable clothing after getting a spray tan. This will allow the tan to develop evenly and prevent any rubbing or smudging. We always recommend avoiding bras post-tan, as the straps can dig into your freshly tanned skin.

4. Not waiting long enough before showering

It's important to wait the recommended amount of time (usually 1-4 hours) before showering after a spray tan. Showering too soon can cause the tan to fade faster or become patchy in certain areas. Make sure to follow the instructions provided by your spray tan technician and wait the recommended amount of time before showering.

5. Overlapping areas

Another common mistake is overlapping areas when applying the spray tan. This can lead to dark, patchy areas on the skin. To avoid this, make sure to stand still and follow the instructions provided by your spray tan technician. Make sure you avoid bending your arms or neck unless specifically directed to, as this can cause creases in the tan.

Remember, spray tanning is a process that requires some preparation and aftercare to achieve the best results. By avoiding these common mistakes and following these tips, you can achieve a flawless, natural-looking tan that will make you feel confident and beautiful.
